How to use the Etsy Fee Calculator
Use this calculator before publishing a listing or changing a price. Start with the item price and shipping amount the buyer pays, then enter the product cost, shipping label or fulfillment cost, listing fee, transaction fee, payment processing fee, and any ad cost. The result shows whether the listing still has enough profit after fees.
- Enter the item price you plan to charge on Etsy.
- Add shipping charged to the buyer, even if you call it paid shipping or handling.
- Add your product cost and actual shipping cost.
- Adjust listing, transaction, payment processing, and offsite ads rates for your shop.
- Use the net profit and profit margin to decide whether the listing needs a higher price.
Etsy fee calculator formula
Gross revenue = Item price + Shipping charged
Total fees = Listing fee + Payment fixed fee + Ad cost + Gross revenue x percentage fee rates
Net profit = Gross revenue - Product cost - Shipping cost - Total fees
Profit margin = Net profit / Gross revenue
The percentage fee rates can include Etsy transaction fees, payment processing, offsite ads, or any marketplace fee you want to model. Keep the fields editable because Etsy fees and payment processing rules can vary by region and account setup.
Example Etsy fee calculation
If a buyer pays $28.00 for an item and $4.99 for shipping, the gross revenue is $32.99. If your product costs $9.50, shipping costs $4.20, and fees are around $3.58, the estimated profit is about $15.71 before taxes and overhead.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting that shipping charged can still affect percentage-based marketplace fees.
- Ignoring payment fixed fees on low-price items.
- Leaving offsite ads at zero when the order actually came from an offsite ad click.
- Counting customer shipping as profit without subtracting your shipping cost.
Etsy fee calculator FAQ
What is a good Etsy profit margin?
Many sellers aim for enough margin to cover fees, ads, returns, packaging, taxes, and their own time. A listing that looks profitable before ads may become weak once ad cost is included.
Should I include packaging costs?
Yes. Add packaging, inserts, labels, and similar order-level costs into product cost or shipping cost so the net profit is not overstated.
Can I use this for POD products?
Yes, but the POD Profit Calculator gives you fields that are more specific to print-on-demand base cost, shipping, ads, and returns allowance.
