How to use the Etsy Pricing Calculator

Use this calculator when you already know the profit you want from an order. Enter your desired profit, costs, shipping setup, Etsy fee assumptions, payment processing, and ad cost. The calculator estimates the item price needed to reach that target.

  1. Start with a realistic desired profit per order.
  2. Add product, packaging, shipping, listing, processing, and ad costs.
  3. Choose whether the buyer pays shipping or the item price absorbs it.
  4. Adjust percentage fee rates for your shop and country.
  5. Compare the suggested price against competing listings before publishing.

Etsy pricing formula

Total percentage rate = Transaction fee rate + Processing rate + Offsite ads rate

Fixed costs = Product cost + Shipping cost + Listing fee + Payment fixed fee + Ad cost

Suggested price = (Desired profit + Fixed costs - Shipping charged x (1 - Total percentage rate)) / (1 - Total percentage rate)

This reverse formula is useful because a higher item price also increases percentage-based fees. The calculator accounts for that instead of simply adding desired profit to your costs.

Example Etsy pricing calculation

If you want $10 profit, product cost is $8.50, shipping cost is $4.20, shipping charged is $4.99, listing fee is $0.20, payment fixed fee is $0.25, and combined percentage fees are 9.5%, the item price needs to be around $20.86.

Common pricing mistakes

  • Pricing from competitor listings without knowing their cost structure.
  • Offering free shipping without moving shipping cost into the item price.
  • Setting a desired profit but forgetting payment fixed fees.
  • Ignoring ads when the listing depends on paid traffic.

Etsy pricing calculator FAQ

Should I price for profit or price against competitors?

Use both. First calculate the price needed for your target profit, then compare it with competitors to decide whether the product, cost structure, or positioning still makes sense.

Can I use this for free shipping?

Yes. Set shipping charged to zero, enter your real shipping cost, and the calculator will estimate the product price needed to absorb shipping.

What if the suggested price feels too high?

Try lowering product cost, reducing ad cost, changing the shipping model, or choosing a product with better pricing power.
